The Orangutan Project needed a peer-to-peer crowdfunding platform that could be easily rolled out in each country they operated in. Due to the organisation's tax deductibility status in each country, they needed to be able to promote campaigns in local currencies and had to accept payments using local payment gateways. Drupal with Drupal Commerce was the logical choice for the code base due to Drupal's multi-site functionality and ease of plugging in different payment gateways and the ability to build sophisticated and custom rules in Drupal Commerce.
